Budget & scope
What does a business website cost?
Understand website quotes, one-off build costs, ongoing expenses and what to prepare before asking for a price.
Start with the job the website needs to do
A website that introduces a local service and collects enquiries has a different scope from a store with product variants, freight rules and stock integrations. Compare the work included in a quote before comparing the total.
Hooray Digital advertises WordPress websites from $495. That is a starting price, not a promise that every project fits the same package. Ask for a written scope covering your pages, design, content and functionality before committing.
What changes the build cost?
Page count is only part of the picture. Five pages with custom booking logic can take more work than a larger site using a consistent layout. Existing content can speed up a project if it is accurate and ready to publish; rewriting, photography and product data cleanup are separate pieces of work.
A useful quote makes responsibilities visible. It should tell you who writes the text, supplies images, enters products, checks redirects and approves the final pages.
- Design: a new direction, a refresh, or an agreed template approach.
- Content: copywriting, image preparation, page population and migration.
- Functionality: forms, bookings, payments, integrations and product options.
- Launch: domain setup, redirect planning, testing and handover.
Separate the build from the running costs
A one-off build price does not necessarily include domain renewal, hosting, software licences or ongoing changes. Ask for these to be listed separately, including who owns each account and what happens if you change providers.
For an online store, include platform subscriptions, paid apps and payment processing in your comparison. A lower initial build price can be outweighed by recurring services you do not need.
Questions to ask before accepting a quote
Get the answers in writing so you can compare like with like.
- Which pages and features are included, and what counts as additional work?
- How many review rounds are included, and who supplies the content?
- Are GST, hosting, domain fees and third-party subscriptions included or separate?
- What access and handover will I receive?
- What is tested before launch, and what support is included afterwards?
Prepare a brief that gets you a useful price
Send your current website address, the main goal, the pages or products you need, and any deadline that matters. Include two or three websites you like and explain what you like about them. If you have a working budget, sharing it helps us suggest a realistic first stage.
You do not need every image ready to start a conversation. For a free mock-up, begin with the idea; we can discuss the direction and arrange assets after reviewing your enquiry.
